The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This three-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. Constant's Wharf Park & Marina
The summer is here and Suffolk Parks & Recreation wants you to kick off your weekend right with the TGIF Summer Concert Series of 2022. The park will open at 6pm and the bands will take the stage at 6:30pm. The music will have you jamming in your seat until 9:30pm. Lots of family fun, with food vendors, bounce houses, adult beverages, and merchant vendors.

Suffolk’s citizens, like in most other American localities, have served and sacrificed in the name of freedom. The 60-minute walking tour highlights and honors the graves and memorials of soldiers from Suffolk and old Nansemond County who died in combat during the two World Wars, Korean War and Vietnam War. Advance reservations required. Participants will meet at the porch of the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum.
Suffolk Art Gallery
Join the Suffolk Art Gallery, the Suffolk Art League, and host Nathan Richardson for this spoken word event. Poets, writers, musicians, spoken word, and more are welcome. Present your own original works or favorites by others. Not a writer or musician? Come listen to others, enjoy a slice of pizza, and visit the Gallery in a relaxed, open, and comfortable environment. Space restrictions and registration requirements will be determined based on COVID-19 guidelines at the time of the event.
Constant's Wharf Kayak Launch
Come join us as we take you on a relaxing kayak paddle up and down the Nansemond River. This trip will begin and end at the Constant’s Wharf kayak launch, behind the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront. This event is produced by Suffolk Parks & Recreation.

This 75-minute walking tour explores the hidden meanings buried in Suffolk’s Historic Cedar Hill Cemetery. The tour will feature Victorian-era symbolism, burial practices, funerary industries, and mourning rituals. This intriguing and educational excursion will highlight how the residents of Suffolk both lived and died in the 19th century. Cedar Hill Cemetery is more than two centuries old, with roots that harken back to the founding of Suffolk. With keen eyes and curious minds, this tour will bring into focus the fascinating world of Victorian America, their obsession with death, dying, and living beyond the grave.
Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts
Join Suffolk Tourism, in partnership with the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, as they proudly present Summer of Adventure at the Center, a series of three blockbuster adventure films. The series continues on Friday, July 17, 2022, when Jurassic Park comes to the big screen. Admission is $2 per person, and the movie will begin at 2pm. This tour departs from Nansemond Brewing Station at 212 E. Washington Street.

See Suffolk through the eyes of years gone by! Suffolk’s rich heritage dates back to the early 17th century, when Captain John Smith first encountered the Nansemond Indians on the Nansemond River. Even now, you can trace Suffolk’s legacy through our historic homes and neighborhoods, churches and Virginia Civil War Trails. Guided by a Suffolk historian, you meet the people and places that made Suffolk the city it is today. Highlights of this windshield tour include Cedar Hill Cemetery, Riddick’s Folly House Museum, Constant’s Wharf, College Court and Suffolk’s Historic Lakeside neighborhood.

An official Virginia Civil War Trail site, Cedar Hill Cemetery has long been an attraction for history buffs and even walking groups. The Suffolk Division of Tourism offers a guided stroll through the pleasant 32-acre cemetery, rich in history and natural beauty. A hair-raising encounter with the spirited side of Suffolk. Follow a costumed guide through the shadows of historic Main Street discovering stories, legends and "unexplained occurrences" by lantern light. Tales of unsolved mysteries and unresolved affairs abound throughout Suffolk's historically hip Ghost Walk. Reservations required.
Located in the Chuckatuck section of Northern Suffolk, explore one of the many freshwater lakes that make up this beautiful park. Transportation is not available for this tour; please meet at the Chuckatuck Public Library. Guided kayak excursions are facilitated by a water adventures outfitter with years of experience. All equipment is included with registration fee. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and comfortable clothing recommended. Participants must be at least 10 years of age or older; anyone 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. You are encouraged to bring a snack and bottled water.
